Note: Among cell populations of HF the folloving are the most important:
- Cells of epithelial origin: matrix trichocytes [M] and ORS [outer root sheath] cells.
- Cells of dermal origin: DP fibroblasts and dermal sheath [DS] fibroblasts.
The last play in HF predominantly regulation role, while the former represent mitotically active populations.
1. It is known, that DS cells and germinative epithelium cells [GE, they are located at the very base of vibrissae HF matrix] were transplanted together in micro-incision of ear pinna. It should be noted, that this transplantative system contain great number of different “contaminating” cell types [i.e. cells from local HFs of ear skin]. They can contribute heavily and take part in HF regeneration. Nevertheless, as a result of this transplantation DPs regenerated and follicle restoration occur. New HFs were of vibrissae type.

2. These results were confirmed later. And it was proposed, that germinative epithelium influence DS cells to regenerate in DP. And it is new DP who induct new hair thereafter.

3. In vitro, in 2-D culture where GE cells were placed above DS cells, GE cells have greater rate proliferation. But no intricate structures, as well as in case of DP cells instead of Ds cells were produced.
