LY 191704 - nonsteroidal inhibitor of 5a-reductase type I.

(8-chloro-4-methyl-1,2,3,4,4a,5,6,10b-octaahydro-benzo[f]quinol in-3(2H)-one)

New nonsteroidal inhibitor of 5 alpha-reductase type 1.

Mechanism:
LY191704 specifically block membrane-bound type 1 isoenzyme of 5 alpha-reductase, thus blocking the peripheral conversion of testosterone to DHT.
It is a new drug. Animals models of prostate cells have been only tested.

Specific studies on androgenetic alopecia are not known.
