Novel 4-azasteroid, 5-alpha reductase inhibitor with steroid structure (azasteroid). Not an antiandrogen.
Mechanism:
MK 0963, reversibly inhibit 5 alpha-reductase in competitive mode, resulting in suppression of serum DHT.
Clinical studies in Merck Research Laboratories indicate, that MK0963 alone, depending from administerd doze, reduce DHT level by 78-80%. Due to cumulative effect, MK0963 activity stay high for about 6 days after last administered dose.
Even more prominent is, that decrease in DHT level is not acomplished by increase in Testosterone serum concentration.
No studies on the model of human androgenetic alopecia is known.
In the future, it can be used topically for treatment of androgenetic alopecia. |
