Novel 4-azasteroid, 5-alpha reductase inhibitor with steroid structure (azasteroid). Not an antiandrogen.
Mechanism:
MK 0434, reversibly inhibit 5 alpha-reductase in competitive mode, resulting in suppression of serum DHT.
Clinical studies on the model of BPH indicate, that MK 0434 alone, starting from doze - 5 mg, reduce DHT level by 50%. Due to cumulative effect, This decrease in DHT level is not acomplished by increase in Testosterone serum concentration.
No studies on the model of human androgenetic alopecia is known.
In the future, it can be used topically or systemic for treatment of androgenetic alopecia. |
